"The First Show will include a selection of paintings and sculptures all arrived at
through the examination of classification, form, and subsequently, reception.
The works address the ways in which material, shape, or subject affect visual
understanding. Rather than accepting prescribed or hierarchical associations,
Nereim, Owens, Talley, and Tippit, respectively, disrupt and re-format in an
effort to askew formal convention. By actively adjusting the relationships
between size and proportion, surface and depth, language and image, or problem
and solution they are able to interfere with the standards of meaning creation.
